In 2005 when Lucy was born, Chris and I were living on one of the main streets of DC, a four-laner that carried its share of buses, trucks and mad hatter drivers. As the Post recently reported, between 2001 - '05, carbon emissions in that area more than doubled. I didn't need a report to tell me this--walking up Connecticut Ave. was enough to make me think I had asthma!
Concerned about how indoor air pollution would impact our newborn, we decided to skip the controversial Shaper Image do-hickey and head straight for a top-notch air filter. We finally settled on the IQAir Health Pro, a hospital-grade workhorse manufactured in Switzerland. The IQAir isn't cheap by any means, but in my opinion, it's worth every penny. The minute we fired it up, dust bunnies ran for their lives and Chris, who does have asthma, is now nearly two years off his inhaler.
If you do end up with an IQAir (lucky you!), a great thing to do is wheel it into the bedroom at night, as our salesman advised. That way, when your body's "recuperating" from a long day, it gets some respite in the form of good, clean air.
And, if you're like me and HATE housework, you'll find yourself dusting much less often. Or, at least, *thinking* a lot less often about how you should really get around to dusting...
